3M Marine Adhesive Sealant 5200 — Black 10 fl oz Cartridge (Nozzle)
Product description
3M Marine Adhesive Sealant 5200 is a heavy-duty polyurethane formulated for long-term bonding and sealing of boats, RVs and other watercraft. Supplied in a 10 fl oz cartridge with an applicator nozzle, the compound dispenses directly from the tube—no mixing needed—and is intended for industrial/occupational use only, not retail consumer sale.
The formula adheres to a wide range of marine substrates including wood, gelcoat, fiberglass and metal. It is commonly used for interior fittings and locations below the waterline or otherwise shielded from direct sunlight. Application is straightforward with a manual caulking gun; the sealant becomes tack-free within 1–2 hours and typically reaches full cure within about 48 hours, depending on temperature and humidity.
Once cured it forms a firm yet elastomeric bond that absorbs stress from vibration, shock, swelling and shrinkage. It is engineered to resist saltwater corrosion, weathering and temperature extremes, maintaining strength both above and below the waterline while remaining flexible to accommodate structural movement.
Typical uses include bonding deck to hull, mounting portholes and deck hardware, attaching motors to fiberglass transoms, sealing under mouldings and filling hull seams above or below the waterline. It also performs well on centerboard trunk joints, between struts and planking, stern joints and deck housings. The paste-like consistency resists sagging or flowing in vertical or horizontal seams.
3M’s industrial adhesives and tapes are developed to deliver durability and consistent performance. This product reflects decades of marine use by professionals, combining long-term weather resistance with high bond strength for demanding marine and exterior applications.
Pros
- Extremely strong, permanent bond
- Waterproof and saltwater resistant
- Flexible—absorbs vibration and movement
Cons
- Bond is effectively permanent and hard to remove
- Cure time can be long in cool or humid conditions
- Occasional shipments arrive without an applicator tip
VerdictA professional-grade, permanently bonding marine sealant that delivers exceptional waterproofing and structural strength. Ideal where a lasting, flexible joint is required, it resists saltwater, vibration and temperature swings. Expect a robust, difficult-to-remove bond and a curing time that can vary with conditions — plan accordingly.

Truly permanent adhesion
This stuff bonds practically anything and stays waterproof. I’ve used it from concrete thresholds to reattaching shoe soles with great results. Be aware: the joint will not separate easily—you’ll likely damage the parts trying to pry them apart.

Extremely effective
Works amazingly well. Just be certain you want a permanent bond—this is not a temporary fix.

Sealed trailer seams well
Used to seal seams on our camping trailer. It cured fairly quickly, stayed pliable without cracking, and held through the rainy season. One tube covered a 35' trailer.

Powerful stuff — use protection
Great product but handle with care. Wear gloves and have solvent ready to remove squeeze-out immediately. This sealant is no joke.

Long cure, nozzle arrived damaged
I used it to reseal a battery top where the lid handle came loose. The tube’s nozzle was cracked off the ring but still worked. It took far longer to fully set than I hoped — plan for a lengthy cure. It’s messy if it gets on skin; solvent helps but is unpleasant. Next time I’ll consider the fast-cure formula.

Missing applicator tip in shipment
Product performance is solid and long-lasting, but my order arrived without the applicator tip. Having to buy a separate tip or wait for a replacement is inconvenient — not ideal when you need to start work right away.

Perfect for laminated plywood and boats
Ideal waterproof adhesive for laminated marine plywood. I used it on a curved balcony wall and found the joint stronger than traditional rail supports. It is stiffer in cold weather and a bit softer above about 75°F, but the bond strength is excellent.

Fixed a tricky flashing leak
I rebuilt a problematic flashing area made from three different materials. After removing old sealants and prepping surfaces I used this product through the full tube opening. It spread like putty, smoothed easily, didn’t cling to my tool, held in place without sagging and stopped the leak completely.

Stopped a roof leak
A bit pricey but it does what it promises. I sealed a glass roof leak; it took a few days to set but the leak has been gone since.

Reliable for transom repairs
Arrived on time and well packed. Used to fill transducer screw holes in a boat transom. Easy to apply; full cure took about a week. I recommend it and suggest using a tube plug to preserve unused product.
