Vodafone Launches Ireland’s First Dedicated IoT SIM Cards

Vodafone has become the first operator in Ireland to introduce dedicated IoT (Internet of Things) SIM cards as part of its “V-SIM” initiative.

From now on, consumer IoT products sold by Vodafone will be supplied as standard with a V-SIM by Vodafone card.

The companion app gives users a clear dashboard of all Vodafone IoT devices registered to their account, making device management straightforward.

New devices can be added quickly by scanning a QR code with the app, providing an easy, hassle-free way for customers to start using IoT products.

Vodafone Group Chief Executive Vittorio Colao commented:

“The Internet of Things is already transforming business operations. Over the next decade, the expansion of IoT into consumer markets will bring an equally dramatic change in how people manage everyday life, both at home and during leisure time.

‘V by Vodafone’ simplifies connecting a wide range of IoT-enabled devices, helping customers protect what matters to them and keep it secure.

We look forward to applying our global expertise in IoT to help consumers make the most of the next phase of the digital revolution.”

While many consumer devices rely on Wi-Fi, Vodafone’s mobile network allows these products to stay connected across 32 countries wherever there is mobile signal.

This mobility expands potential use cases, and Vodafone plans to capitalize on these opportunities with several new product launches.

V-Auto is an OBD-II dongle that plugs into a car to provide automatic emergency assistance, a “Safety Score” to help drivers improve their habits, and a “Find My Car” feature for locating a vehicle in large parking areas.

V-Auto is priced at €80 upfront, with a €2.99 monthly subscription.

V-Camera, developed in partnership with Netgear’s Arlo brand, is a wireless HD mobile security camera designed for indoor or outdoor use where a Wi‑Fi connection may be unreliable—such as behind thick walls. Its cellular connectivity ensures continuous monitoring where Wi‑Fi can’t reach.

V-Camera is priced at €350 upfront, with a €4.99 monthly subscription.

V-Bag is a compact tracker intended for handbags, school bags, briefcases, or any valued items. It can send automatic alerts if the item leaves a predefined area, helping users keep track of belongings on the move.

V-Bag is priced at €60 upfront, with a €2.99 monthly subscription.

V by Vodafone products are already available in several countries, including the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, and now Ireland.
