Pilot Project for AI Service in Port — Next Steps Underway

At the end of November, Swedac completed a pilot project that developed an AI service and tested it on Swedac’s own management system. The project produced a number of insights, and Swedac now aims to take the possibilities further.
“We need to consider issues such as legal aspects and security, but within the next year we aim to develop a version that can be piloted on live material,” says Linnea Holm, Head of Staff at Swedac.

The tool created during the autumn project was developed over four weeks in collaboration with IBM, Arrow Electronics and Interplanetary Species. It was tested on Swedac’s own management system, where the tool summarized the system and analyzed it against the ISO 17011 standard.

“It’s remarkable what we managed to achieve in such a short time. That’s one takeaway. Another is that the technology is strong, but we as users need to learn how to use it,” Linnea Holm explains.

Training the tool

AI tools can simplify everyday tasks, but it is essential to train them properly and understand where they are most useful. AI can never fully replace human expertise.

“Exactly. As we move forward and eventually test AI to support preparation for assessments, it’s important to remember it will be an aid, not a decision-maker,” Holm emphasizes.

Areas of use

In a future pilot, the tool will primarily assist with preparations for assessments. Over time, Holm says, the tool could potentially be made available to accredited bodies.

“Everything must be done correctly, and there are still several considerations to address, such as legal requirements, procurement rules and security aspects. That said, it is extremely exciting to have taken this first step,” Linnea Holm concludes.
