New Milestone for Swedish Quantum Innovation

Swedish industry must accelerate its pace in the ongoing quantum race. To drive progress, an innovation competition in quantum technology is now being launched, giving Sweden’s quantum ecosystem a chance to push development forward.

The Swedish quantum network QSIP has announced an innovation competition with prize money totalling up to 1.5 million SEK and a pitch final at the GoWest venture capital forum at the end of January.

The competition is structured around clearly defined challenges where current conventional technologies cannot provide a solution and where quantum technology presents a viable path forward.

“It is crucial for Swedish companies to keep pace in the quantum race. Through this competition we aim to demonstrate the potential of quantum technology and discover new Swedish success stories and practical use cases,” says Camilla Johansson, director of QSIP and group manager at Chalmers Industriteknik.

QSIP and the innovation competition are intended to act as a catalyst for collaboration between end users and solution providers.

Participants will submit their quantum solutions addressing predefined challenges. Proposals will be reviewed by a distinguished jury that includes Elisabeth Österlund, chair of Svenska Elektronik, and Beatriz Grafulla, research leader at Ericsson.

The competition final takes place at GoWest in Gothenburg on 29 January. Up to five winners will be selected and share a total of up to 1.5 million SEK to further develop their innovations. The competition is funded by Vinnova.

Jon Wingborg, QSIP’s Outreach Manager, has strong confidence in the initiative.

“We know the capabilities present within our Swedish quantum network. This innovation competition will accelerate development and bring important solutions to light,” Jon Wingborg says.
