Fiskars Stick Rotary Cutter, 28 mm — Compact Rotary Cutter
Product description
What you get: the Fiskars Classic Stick Rotary Cutter equipped with a 28 mm rotary blade, plus the integrated sliding blade guard and lifetime warranty. The tool is made in USA or imported and ships ready to use.
Blade and construction: the cutter’s wheel features a titanium carbide surface bonded to a high-grade, precision-ground premium steel core to help the edge stay sharp longer. The compact 28 mm diameter is sized to tackle curved cuts, small shapes and precision trimming while remaining easy to control.
How it’s used: the stick-style body is symmetrical, allowing comfortable freehand cutting for both right- and left-handed users. A sliding button extends a protective guard over the wheel when the cutter is not in use. For best results, cut on a flat, firm surface or cutting mat and apply steady, even pressure — it handles batting, foams and multiple fabric layers better than scissors for many quilting tasks.
Pros
- Sharp, long-lasting blade surface
- Ambidextrous, easy-to-control stick design
- Sliding guard locks blade for safer storage
Cons
- 28 mm size not ideal for heavy multi-layer cutting
- Some users find the new grip shape awkward
- May need blade replacement for very heavy use
VerdictA handy, precise cutter for quilting, fussy cutting and small curves. The 28 mm blade is built to hold an edge and the ambidextrous body plus sliding blade guard make it safe and versatile. It’s best suited to single layers or light multi-layer work; a few users noted grip comfort or blade-sharpness issues, but overall it’s a reliable tool for hobby sewists.

Better control, very sharp
Provides finer control and more precise cuts than scissors. The blade is very sharp. Highly recommend for detailed cutting.

Model redesign feels different
The newer shape is different from the older version. I used to guide it with my index finger on top, but the new dip changes the grip and feels awkward to me.

Sharp and good for curves
Met my expectations for Fiskars. The blade arrived sharp and the size is convenient for cutting small pieces and rounded shapes.

Perfect compact cutter
This small rotary is great for fussy cutting tiny projects. I now use it for most of my cutting, including long strips — much easier to handle.

Glides smoothly and slices cleanly
I was skeptical at first that a small wheel could cut fabric and cardboard, but it surprised me. The blade guard snaps down easily and the cutter went cleanly through the cardboard packaging. You can use it freehand or along a straight edge — it requires a firm, flat surface and even pressure. Very fun to use for curves and straights.

Effortless straight cuts
Cuts straight lines on fabric with very little downward pressure. The blade seems sharp and the safety guard is easy to operate when not in use.

Best for single-layer work
Works great for single layers; more difficult with two or more layers. Navigates corners nicely and the blade guard is reassuring.

Great for a first-time rotary user
This was my first rotary cutter and it’s much more precise than scissors. I tested it on old fabric and it worked well, though I had to re-cut a few spots — might be my technique or a duller blade. I’m considering a larger size next.
