Telecom workers kept the country connected during its most challenging times, and BT is proposing to recognise their efforts with a team bonus of £1,500.
Philip Jansen, CEO of BT, said:
“BT has made a significant contribution to the national effort over the past year: we have supported the NHS, families and businesses, and avoided redundancies or furloughs in our response to the pandemic.
Our frontline colleagues and key workers have been real heroes, keeping everyone connected during this most difficult period.”
Under the proposal, the bonus would be paid as £1,000 in cash immediately and £500 in company shares that vest after three years.
Despite offering this bonus, BT has implemented a company-wide pay freeze and continues to consult with trade unions regarding its transformation and modernisation plans.
“BT has delivered for our customers through the commitment of our people, but like many organisations, the pandemic has affected our financial performance,” Jansen added.
“Given that context, we have to set priorities, and I am determined we will do everything we can to reward our frontline colleagues.”
BT expects the proposed team member bonus not to have a material impact on the company’s full-year financial outlook.
