Airon to Build Sweden’s Largest AI Factory for SEK 5 Billion

Swedish tech company Airon is embarking on a major expansion with a SEK 5 billion investment in a new AI facility in Lidköping. The new plant will become Sweden’s largest purpose-built AI infrastructure and represents an important step to meet rapidly growing demand for powerful, sustainable and secure AI solutions.

New 20,000 m² AI facility with 20 MW capacity

Airon plans to construct a state-of-the-art AI factory covering 20,000 square metres and delivering 20 megawatts of power. At the same time, the company’s existing Lidköping site will be expanded to add further capacity.

When the expansion is complete, Airon’s AI infrastructure will total more than 11,700 GPUs – with 10,000 in the new factory and 1,700 in the existing facility.

Airon — a Swedish alternative to global cloud giants

Airon provides a uniquely vertically integrated AI offering, developing its own hardware, operations and platform. This enables isolated AI environments where clients receive exclusive access to compute resources without sharing — a feature that’s increasingly important for customers in industry, the public sector and research.

“We are not just building a data centre — we are establishing a completely new type of AI infrastructure. We demonstrate that it is possible to deliver global, high-performance solutions locally and securely,” says Robert Lidberg, CEO and co‑founder of Airon.

Collaboration with NVIDIA for world-class AI performance

The new AI factory is being developed in close collaboration with NVIDIA, which will supply the facility with the latest AI compute technologies. This gives customers access to some of the most advanced AI processing power on the market, a crucial advantage as AI development accelerates.

100% renewable energy and heat recovery

Airon’s facilities will be powered entirely by renewable energy and designed to recover waste heat for integration with the local district heating network. This approach ensures AI operations do not strain the local power grid and, at the same time, contributes to lower district heating costs in Lidköping.

Flexible AI infrastructure built for the future

The factories’ modular and scalable design allows Airon to rapidly adapt to technological developments in AI. Customers will be able to lease entire factories or select smaller modular units depending on their needs.

“We believe the future of AI will be built by nimble companies with deep AI expertise — not by the traditional cloud giants. Sweden has unique conditions to lead, with access to green energy and world-class technical expertise,” Lidberg adds.
