Engineering consultancy Sigma Industry Development is expanding and strengthening its offerings by scaling the organization with two key leadership appointments. Amir Alizadeh joins as Head of the Calculations Section, and Mattias Bäckman assumes the role of Section Manager for Product Development 3.
Amir Alizadeh, Head of Calculations
With an academic background in engineering physics specializing in strength of materials and experience from the safety and construction sectors, Amir has been with Sigma for nearly seven years. His professional experience spans multiple roles both on client sites and internally, including coordination roles and calculation engineer positions. In recent years he has contributed to the development of electric buses and served as group leader for the calculations team, with an active focus on business development in the area.
“I am genuinely looking forward to my new role and the opportunity to develop the calculations section together with my colleagues,” Amir says. He adds that his experience as a group leader and the knowledge gained from Sigma’s leadership program Propeller provide strong foundations for moving forward.
Amir continues: “My vision is to create growth in the team by combining a high level of employee satisfaction with an expanding customer base and increased business opportunities.”
Mattias Bäckman, Section Manager Product Development 3
Mattias Bäckman, a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering with a degree in Design and Product Development, takes the lead of the new Product Development 3 section. With over six years of experience as a designer, product developer and project manager within the automotive industry, and an additional three years in business development, Mattias has contributed to the development of gas-powered heavy vehicles and broadened the company’s internal customer base at Sigma.
“I have always appreciated Sigma’s focus on the individual and the opportunities that focus has provided,” Mattias explains. From strong team spirit and the chance to participate in the new leadership program Propeller, to the opportunity to take on a larger role within the organization as section manager for product development.
“My vision is to continue strengthening Sigma’s corporate culture while broadening our client base. I want to maintain a balance that puts both the customer and the employee at the center. Together we can and will drive development toward a more sustainable, secure and greener future.”
Focus on Growth
Johan Cahier, CEO of Sigma Industry Development, expresses enthusiasm about welcoming Amir and Mattias to the executive team and highlights their reliable leadership qualities.

Both section managers will assume their new roles in February 2024: Amir Alizadeh on February 1 and Mattias Bäckman on February 5.
