Nostalgic handheld with solid specs
This R40MAX offers a compelling mix of features for retro lovers: a 4" 720×720 IPS panel, Linux OS, preloaded storage and a 4000mAh battery. The screen size is ideal for classic titles and the square resolution suits many older games. The open Linux environment is a plus for tinkerers who want more control over emulation and setup.

Bright screen and comfortable controls
Very enjoyable to use — the 4-inch display is vivid and clear, and the controls feel responsive after a short break-in. The included 64GB card gives plenty of space. The translucent blue design looks smart too.

Loads of games, minor screen rotation bug
Plenty of preloaded titles and excellent sound. Gameplay is vibrant and sharp, but the display sometimes loads rotated and needs a reset. Otherwise a great little handheld.

Ready to play out of the box; impressive performance
Comes preloaded and boots straight to games, no long setup needed. The RK3326 quad-core gives noticeably better performance than similar casings I’ve tried — Dreamcast runs at playable speeds here. Controls are a touch firm at first but otherwise this is excellent value for the performance.
