These substrate guards are designed to separate ABG and other soil mixes from a terrarium’s drainage layer. By holding the substrate above the false bottom, they help retain proper humidity and slow down substrate breakdown, keeping your reservoir functional over time.
The mesh pattern is intentionally fine enough to prevent most debris and the bulk of bioactive fauna from moving into the drainage layer, yet open enough to allow adequate water movement so the reservoir can breathe. That balance helps maintain a cleaner false bottom and reduces root intrusion into the reservoir.
You get two sheets sized at approximately 36.2" x 18.9" (often referenced as 36" x 18") so you can trim them to fit or wrap edges for extra containment and layer stability. The material is a natural, lightweight fabric that bends easily and is gentle for inhabitants like geckos, bearded dragons, ball pythons, frogs, newts, salamanders and skinks. Simple to cut and place, these liners are intended for bioactive terrariums, vivariums and similar enclosures where a tidy drainage layer is desired.
