Kapro 923 Professional Cast-Aluminum Torpedo Level with Dual-View Plumb
Product description
Includes one Kapro 923 professional torpedo level designed for repeated use on the job.
Construction is heavy-duty: a cast aluminum frame protects the unit from impacts, and the body incorporates V-grooves for stable placement on round stock such as pipes and conduits. The compact form is intended for tight spots where a full-size level won’t fit.
The vial package contains three shockproof, epoxy-locked acrylic vials — a dual-view plumb-site vial for front-facing vertical readings, a horizontal vial, and a 45° vial. Vials are machined from optical-grade acrylic block for clarity and break resistance and are hand-calibrated with VPA certification. Sensitivity is 0.0005 in./in. (0.5 mm/m).
Magnetic strips on the body let you secure the level to ferrous surfaces for hands-free work. Use cases include carpentry, general construction, plumbing and metal fabrication. The design emphasizes quick, accurate setup and easy readouts in confined or awkward positions.
Pros
- VPA-certified, hand-calibrated optical vials
- Durable cast-aluminum body with V-groove
- Strong magnets for hands-free positioning
Cons
- May feel heavy compared with plastic torpedoes
- Only two magnets on the flat face (V-groove not magnetic)
- Some users report minor fit-and-finish issues
VerdictA rugged, precise pocket-sized level that blends professional accuracy with practical features. The dual-view plumb sight and three optical-grade vials give dependable readings, while the cast-aluminum body, V-groove and strong magnets make it versatile on job sites. A great choice for tradespeople and serious DIYers seeking a durable, accurate torpedo level.

Front-facing plumb is useful
Nice design — you can view the plumb bubble from the front instead of the side, which is convenient in many situations. Strong magnetism too.

Very visible vials
Vials are much larger and easier to read than my old torpedo. Only two magnets on the flat face could be stronger or a third magnet would help; the V-groove isn’t magnetic. Still, it outperforms my shorter levels at home.

Tough and reliable
For the price it’s my favorite level. It’s taken a lot of knocks, stays accurate, and looks like my other red tools. No complaints.

Tack welding made easier
Perfect for fabrication work — magnet holds parts and wipes clean of metal dust easily. The front-facing mirror lets me tack without twisting my head. I’d like a V-notch on the magnetic edge, but the mirror window is a real advantage.

Outclasses many rivals
Many torpedo levels are similar, but the prism placement makes the vertical vial much easier to read. Feels high quality throughout. My only minor gripe is I’d prefer a domestic build, but that doesn’t detract from the excellent performance.

Accurate and sturdy
Checked against multiple shop levels and this one is spot on. Very solid and heavier than plastic models, so if you prefer ultra-light tools it may feel heavy.

Works but has flaws
The downward mirror is a useful idea, but mine was slightly misaligned compared to photos. The viewing window fogs when moved between cold and warm places (inside and out) and there's some glue residue around the circular side windows.

Feature-rich and straightforward
Well made and simple to use. Magnets held frames secure for horizontal and vertical checks. The 90° mirrored sight is handy for tight spots, and the included 45° vial adds real versatility. Bright color makes it easy to find in a toolbox.

Built like a tank
Extremely tough — survives industrial use and abuse. The protected vials and rugged feel suggest long life. Magnets are very strong and the front-facing magnified plumb sight is genuinely useful. The large hang hole makes it easy to clip to a belt. Highly recommend for pros or home users.
