Danish Admin By Request Takes on US IT Giants with European Security Software

The Danish technology company Admin By Request is rapidly expanding as a global contender to American giants in privileged access management and secure remote access. In a world marked by geopolitical tensions, strained relations with the United States and growing cyber threats, the company is seeing a clear rise in demand—especially from customers seeking European alternatives to U.S. software.

Danish roots — global reach

Headquartered in Aalborg and Copenhagen, with additional offices in London, Munich, Gothenburg and the United States, Admin By Request emphasizes both its local roots and global ambitions.

“We are 100% Danish, but also 100% global,” says Jens Ole Andersen, regional director at the company.

All development takes place in Aalborg, and unlike many other vendors, Admin By Request has chosen not to outsource software development.

“We want full control over our processes and the ability to act quickly. Having developers on site also strengthens security. There are examples of companies outsourcing development to actors that later turned out to be connected to hostile states—this will not happen here.”

Two core solutions — built for control and security

Admin By Request offers two primary SaaS services:

  1. Client-level privileged access management — Grants users temporary administrator rights without compromising security.
  2. Secure remote access — Enables controlled screen sharing and remote support for both internal and external IT staff.

The software is designed to meet modern requirements for compliance, control and efficiency.

A shift away from U.S. vendors

“For years Danish companies have relied on American giants like Microsoft—sometimes even when they admit our solution is both better and cheaper,” Andersen says.

Outside Denmark there has long been a more critical attitude toward American suppliers, often rooted in concerns about privacy and data protection. Now a noticeable shift is occurring at home as well, driven by geopolitical instability and increased awareness of IT sovereignty.

“Companies are rethinking. They realize that the choice of software provider is not just about functionality but also about strategic security.”

Stronger support needed for European tech

With more than 30 years of industry experience, Jens Ole Andersen sees significant potential for European—especially Danish—software companies but calls for better growth conditions.

“We have the talent, but we often lack the major investments and political backing needed to scale globally. If that changes, we could see the emergence of new European tech leaders comparable to the likes of Novo Nordisk.”

He believes cybersecurity should be prioritized as seriously as agriculture or other critical national infrastructure.

“I’m not advocating massive subsidies—just that the public sector seriously considers European options in procurement. Look at AI: Europe missed the initial wave when OpenAI launched ChatGPT. We can’t afford to fall behind again.”

Security without sacrificing efficiency

Admin By Request is built to combine security with usability. Installation rights are removed by default, but users can request temporary access through the tool.

“It should be simple for both the user and the IT department. Companies don’t just ask what a solution costs—they ask how much it affects productivity. Our solution doesn’t harm productivity.”

Building in-house — a risky route

Some companies try to build their own privileged access tools, but those in-house solutions are rarely secure enough.

“We’ve had customers who tried their own tools but abandoned them after security flaws surfaced. Hackers continually evolve—and so must we. That’s why we regularly engage external white‑hat hackers to test our platform.”
