BlackRock and Verizon Launch Private 5G Network at New York HQ

Verizon Business and BlackRock have announced that BlackRock’s new global headquarters at 50 Hudson Yards in New York City will be equipped with a private Verizon 5G network.

The agreement brings secure 5G Ultra Wideband connectivity to critical areas of BlackRock’s Hudson Yards facility where high speed and low latency are essential—such as the trading floor, client-facing conference center, advanced auditorium, and meeting rooms.

This On Site 5G deployment can complement or replace traditional office WiFi and enables BlackRock to adopt workplace-of-the-future tools and applications, including enhanced virtual training, AR/VR experiences, advanced security management and monitoring, real-time edge computing, and other data-centric technologies that depend on high bandwidth and minimal latency.

Tami Erwin, CEO of Verizon Business, said: “5G Ultra Wideband is the platform for 21st century business and should be a prerequisite for any workplace that aims to be state of the art and future ready.

“BlackRock’s decision to outfit their new headquarters with On Site 5G from Verizon Business places them at the forefront of data-driven innovation. Clients, guests and partners will be able to experience the benefits of an on-premises private network firsthand.”

Rob Goldstein, COO of BlackRock, said: “From the outset we wanted to build a world-class, technology-focused experience for our people and clients.

“Partnering with Verizon Business to deploy On Site 5G at our new headquarters helps bring that vision to life. As the nature of work evolves, the vibrant and dynamic environment we are creating will give our teams the best opportunities to succeed and serve clients effectively.”

On Site 5G is a secure, non-standalone private network that pairs 5G Ultra Wideband small cells with an LTE packet core and supporting radios, offering compatibility with a broad range of LTE and 5G devices. The solution uses 5G radios supplied by Corning Incorporated.

As 5G capabilities continue to advance, On Site 5G provides a scalable, customizable foundation that enables organizations to leverage emerging technologies such as IoT, AI/ML, AR/VR, real-time edge computing, and other high-performance applications.
