After Years of Digital Chaos, Almedalen Finally Gets Its Long-Awaited App

Ahead of Almedalsveckan 2026, the product agency Framna is launching a free app that provides visitors with the long-missing digital tool: a personal schedule, a dynamic map and a full overview of all program items. Developed as a purely voluntary initiative, the app went from concept to finished product in just a few weeks thanks to AI-supported product development.

Every summer Almedalsveckan brings together politicians, journalists, civil society and businesses for thousands of seminars and debates in Visby. It is one of Sweden’s most important democratic arenas, yet despite the event’s scale there has long been no official, modern app to manage the vast program.

From frustration to action

Framna, a team of more than 600 specialists across Europe and the US, has attended Almedalen for several years and experienced the digital shortcomings firsthand.

“Eventually we decided to stop complaining and do something about it. We are product developers — this is what we do. This time we did it pro bono for everyone attending the week,” says Marthin Freij, Commercial Director at Framna.

The app is completely free and ad-free. Region Gotland has already shown strong interest in the initiative, and Framna’s ambition is for the app to become Almedalsveckan’s official digital tool in the long term. There are also ideas for expanding the app with additional features, for example to increase interaction among Almedalen visitors.

AI shortened development time from months to weeks

Building a complete and stable event app of this scale normally takes months. By integrating AI tools across the development chain, Framna’s team completed the work in a fraction of the usual time.

“We brought insights from last year’s Almedalen and realized that with AI, combined with strong design and engineering, we could build a finished app in only a few weeks. This is not a simple prototype but a polished product ready to use in the hustle and bustle of Almedalen. We wanted to solve a real problem while demonstrating what modern product development can achieve today,” says Marthin Freij.
