Virgin Media O2 Rolls Out Free Ad-Supported Streaming TV Channels

Virgin Media O2 has partnered with leading entertainment networks to introduce a new lineup of Free Ad-Supported Streaming Television (FAST) channels.

These FAST channels will be integrated into Virgin Media’s Electronic Programming Guide (EPG), appearing alongside the existing linear channel lineup. Unlike conventional channels, each FAST channel will focus on a single show, genre, or themed schedule, creating a more curated and easy-to-browse viewing experience for audiences.

The move is part of Virgin Media O2’s strategy to broaden its TV offering and respond to changing viewer habits by combining the familiarity of linear TV with the convenience and variety of streaming content.

By adding a library of streamed channels that complement its free-to-air and pay TV packages, Virgin Media O2 aims to give customers access to popular programming without extra subscription fees, while also offering partners and advertisers new monetisation opportunities.

The new FAST channels launching on the platform include:

  • Inside Crime (A&E Networks)
  • Mystery TV (A&E Networks)
  • Homes Under the Hammer (All3Media International)
  • Great British Menu (All3Media International)
  • Deal or No Deal USA (Banijay Rights)
  • Fear Factor (Banijay Rights)
  • Wipeout Xtra (Banijay Rights)
  • HauntTV (Blue Ant Media)
  • NextUp Live Comedy (Extreme International)
  • Baywatch (Fremantle)
  • The Chat Show Channel (Little Dot Studios)
  • Real Wild (Little Dot Studios)
  • History Hit (Little Dot Studios)
  • Tastemade (Tastemade)

To build and operate these FAST services, Virgin Media O2 is working with Amagi and Magnite, leveraging their technical expertise and Magnite’s SpringServe video ad server. This collaboration will support targeted, dynamic advertising and help both Virgin Media and its channel partners monetise FAST channels effectively.

David Bouchier, Chief TV and Entertainment Officer at Virgin Media O2, commented:

“We’re enhancing our entertainment offering to give our customers the best of the latest TV innovation – streaming-themed channels, otherwise known as FAST channels.

Through this launch, we’re reimagining the traditional TV format, making our FAST channels visible in the TV guide alongside all our other pay and free channels.”

With FAST channels added, Virgin TV customers will enjoy a richer viewing environment that combines traditional broadcast, video on demand, and apps with these new linear streaming services — all accessible through the TV guide.

“The introduction of FAST on our platform extends the high-quality viewing experience available to our customers, providing traditional broadcast with video-on-demand, apps, and now linear streaming services all at their fingertips,” Bouchier added.

Virgin TV customers will be able to access the FAST channels next month at no extra cost.
