RIM Unveils Mobile Device Management for BlackBerry, iOS & Android

After a challenging few days, Research In Motion (RIM) has launched the full version of its mobile device management solution, BlackBerry Mobile Fusion, aiming to win back trust among business users.

The company has endured a difficult week that included financial write-downs, leadership changes and negative publicity. The release of Mobile Fusion, first announced in November, should help reassure customers and IT administrators by addressing the growing need to manage a diverse array of devices driven by bring-your-own-device (BYOD) trends.

BlackBerry Mobile Fusion provides a web-based control console that gives IT teams centralized tools to manage iOS, Android and BlackBerry devices. Key capabilities include remote device configuration, provisioning, and the ability to control access and synchronization for enterprise email and calendars.

The platform also supports security and incident response features such as remote lock, password reset and the ability to wipe lost or stolen devices, helping organizations protect sensitive corporate data across a mixed-device environment.

“For businesses and government, managing a mix of mobile devices on any scale is chaotic. Organizations face pressure to allow employees to bring their own devices into the workplace,” said Alan Panezic, Vice President of Enterprise Product Management and Marketing at RIM. “BlackBerry Mobile Fusion allows organizations to manage a mixed environment of devices in the most secure, simple, and cost-efficient manner possible.”

Panezic added that the solution enables organizations to maintain stronger security standards without having to lower protections to the weakest device in use.

The Mobile Fusion client application is available as a free download. RIM initially offered licensing on a per-user basis at $99, and provided a no-cost, no-commitment 60-day trial to help organizations evaluate the product. By delivering centralized management for multiple device platforms and focusing on security, BlackBerry Mobile Fusion is positioned to help enterprises and government agencies address the operational challenges of BYOD while protecting corporate assets and user privacy.
