Rapitest Soil Test Kit — Home Garden pH & N-P-K Tester
Product description
This kit is built around a water-extraction testing method: you mix a soil sample with distilled water, let solids settle, then add a single-use reagent capsule to the clear extract. The kit includes small plastic test tubes, a set of color comparator cards, reagent capsules for each test, a small scoop for sampling and a printed instruction sheet.
Materials are primarily molded plastic for the tubes and box, coated paper for the color charts, and pre-measured chemical capsules sealed for one-time use. The testers are compact and organized inside a small plastic case so the set is easy to store in a shed or gardening tote.
Intended use is straightforward: collect a representative soil sample, mix with distilled water, allow settling (some readings benefit from waiting several hours), then drop the appropriate capsule into the tube and compare the developing color against the chart. Tests cover pH plus the primary macronutrients (N, P, K), helping you decide whether to add lime, fertilizer or other amendments.
Pros
- Simple color-based results easy for beginners
- Includes tubes, capsules, scoop and color charts
- Compact and portable kit for home use
Cons
- Capsules are small and can be messy if not handled carefully
- Not as precise as lab analysis for detailed diagnostics
- Some users report inconsistent nitrogen readings
VerdictA practical, affordable kit for home gardeners who want quick, usable readings of pH and basic nutrient levels. The water-extraction and capsule reagents deliver understandable color-based results that help diagnose common deficiencies. It’s not as precise as a professional lab, and the small capsules require careful handling, but most users find it accurate enough to guide amendments and improve

Near-lab results at a fraction of the effort
Surprisingly close to a college lab’s numbers while being much faster and cheaper. Not identical to lab data but accurate enough to decide what to add to soil. I’ll reuse these regularly.

Insightful but takes time and care
After reading reviews I still found it very useful for my fruit trees. The capsule drops are tiny and can spill, and the water-extraction step can take many hours, but that process produced more dependable readings. I corrected deficiencies based on the results and my trees improved significantly—worth the extra patience.

Only a brochure arrived
I received just a brochure instead of the testing kit. Very disappointed and felt misled.

All tests fine except nitrogen
Clear instructions and easy-to-read colors, but the nitrogen reading came up as zero even on enriched soil and fertilizer. Too late to return, so I still used the other tests.
