Join the 5G Future Forum: Help Drive 5G and MEC Adoption

London-based global industry group 5G Future Forum (5GFF) is inviting new members to accelerate the adoption of 5G and multi-access edge computing (MEC).

Established in January 2020 by América Móvil, KT Corp, Rogers, Telstra, Verizon, and Vodafone, 5GFF aims to foster collaboration among operators and ecosystem partners to deliver interoperable edge solutions and drive market growth.

Jae-ho Song, Chief Digital Transformation Officer of KT Corporation, said:

“When uncertainties are rampant, a breakthrough can provide a beacon of opportunities previously untapped. With a bolstered ecosystem of expanded partnerships, KT believes the 5G Future Forum will play a pivotal role in establishing the global edge market that drives innovation, collaboration and competition among ecosystem players.”

In August 2020, 5GFF published abstracts of its technical specifications that outline best practices and reference approaches for edge deployments. Among these were documents covering “MEC Experience Management” and “MEC Deployment,” which describe frameworks to expose MEC capabilities and integrate edge services with operator networks.

Rima Qureshi, Chief Strategy Officer at Verizon, added:

“The 5G Future Forum has made important progress in developing specifications that are accelerating the 5G and MEC ecosystems. We look forward to welcoming new members to 5GFF, as wider adoption of the specifications will benefit our customers and the entire industry.”

New members will receive access to the complete technical specifications as they evolve and will be able to contribute to working groups, helping shape industry standards and accelerate commercial deployments.

Ángel Alija Guerrero, Chief Operating Officer of América Móvil, said:

“América Móvil is pleased to welcome the inclusion of new members to the 5G Future Forum; we believe this will enhance and accelerate the work we have developed to bring more innovation to the MEC ecosystem and the 5G Network. By accelerating a mature 5G environment and achieving its benefits, it will be possible to reach a larger number of industries and subscribers, and this requires a joint effort by the entire telecommunications sector; therefore it is important for the 5G Future Forum to invite additional members.”

Operators interested in joining 5GFF are encouraged to apply by April 26, 2021, to participate directly in specification development and industry collaboration.
