Cyber threats against Swedish organizations are rising at an unprecedented rate, and the demand for shorter planning horizons in cybersecurity work is growing. To meet this new reality, IT-Total is launching a 90-day plan. The concept complements traditional annual cycles and gives organizations the speed required when adversaries accelerate their pace with new technology and AI.
The trend is driven by ever-faster attacks. Two years ago the average time from a click to full control was 1 hour and 12 minutes — today it is 29 minutes. Adversaries use AI to scan for vulnerabilities and move laterally within digital systems. At the same time, statistics show that 40 percent of cyberattacks exploit vulnerabilities from 2020 or earlier, highlighting that many organizations still have unaddressed weaknesses that enable intrusions.
Security work as a sprint within a marathon
Historically, cybersecurity has been conducted according to static annual plans, but a 365-day cycle is not sufficient against attacks measured in minutes. With a global average cost of 44 million kronor to recover from an attack, demands for preparedness and systematic work are increasing. IT-Total emphasizes that efforts must be carried out differently in a world shaped by geopolitical tension and cyber warfare.
– We need to keep the annual cycle but also think differently. With the 90-day plan we establish a systematic approach with shorter cycles, where relevant core areas are reviewed every 90 days, says Diego López, Head of Cyber Security at IT-Total.
Security that enables innovation
The concept focuses on balancing risk mitigation with the need to remain an efficient, digitalized organization. IT-Total stresses that digital development should no longer be held back by security concerns. Instead, the task is to define directives that provide both mandate and momentum while strengthening the organization. The goal is security that promotes rather than hinders innovation.
– We cannot be naive, but we also must not revert to paper and pen. We need to adapt how we lead organizations to the reality we face today. We want Swedish organizations to be learning and innovative, and that requires shorter cycles to handle an environment that changes quickly, concludes Diego López.
