Google One dark web reports roll out to all Google accounts from late July

After Google One VPN was discontinued at the end of June, the Dark Web Reports feature will be made available to all Google account holders starting in late July 2024.

Until now, Dark Web Reports have been limited to Google One members and subscribers. Official documentation explains that after you create a profile, Google monitors parts of the dark web to alert you if your personal information shows up in breaches or data leaks. At the time of writing, these reports are available in 46 countries.

When opening the Google One app today, a popup banner confirmed that this feature will no longer be available in the app “starting in late July.”

The dark web report will no longer be available in Google One starting in late July. See the help article for instructions if you want to continue using the dark web report.

Google One “Dark Web Reports”

Unlike the Google One VPN shutdown, Dark Web Reports are not being removed but moved — they will “become available to all users with a Google consumer account.” Instead of requiring the Google One app or a Google One sign-in, this monitoring will be integrated into the “About this result” or “Results about you” section of Google Search to help you stay informed about potential exposures of your personal data.

The dark web report will be available to all users with a Google consumer account. The dark web report is integrated with Results about you as a combined solution to help users protect their online presence.

Results about you is a feature that helps you find and remove search results that contain your personal contact information, such as your home address, phone number, or email address.

“Results about you” lets you locate and request removal of search results that contain personal information, while the Dark Web Report monitors parts of the internet that are typically harder to reach for signs of leaked personal data, including names, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses. Google describes the change as a “combined solution” intended to help users protect their online presence.

From late July 2024, the dark web report will no longer require a Google One membership. All users signed into their Google accounts will be able to use the feature as it is made available alongside Results about you.

The timeline for integrating the Dark Web Report into user accounts is listed as “late July,” and Google has also noted the removal of the Google One membership requirement. Making the feature widely available could improve user awareness and privacy protections as data breaches become increasingly common across online services and products.

If you want to continue receiving alerts about potential leaks of your personal information, keep an eye on the Results about you section in your Google account once the integration begins in late July.
