Billo, the innovative newcomer and Sweden’s only digital mailbox approved by both the Swedish Agency for Digital Government (DIGG) and the Financial Supervisory Authority, today announces a partnership with Klarna, the AI-driven global payments network and shopping assistant. Through this collaboration, Billo will become the first digital mailbox to offer Klarna as a payment method, giving Swedish consumers new ways to manage household finances fully digitally.
With Klarna integrated as a payment option, Billo users will be able to pay bills directly within the app. This new partnership is the first of its kind and strengthens both Klarna’s and Billo’s positions as innovators simplifying everyday life for consumers.
Klarna recently launched Klarna Saldo, a service that lets consumers hold funds in a Klarna account, transfer money between the Klarna account and external bank accounts, and earn cashback on purchases. Klarna Saldo also pays interest on deposited balances. In the first six weeks alone more than 500,000 Swedes used the service and together earned SEK 29 million. The collaboration with Billo now makes it possible to earn interest on funds used to pay bills as well.
Users will always be able to choose direct payment with Klarna and use Klarna Saldo, but the option to pay later will be restricted for overdue bills and certain categories such as insurance and taxes. These restricted categories will be reviewed continuously, and Klarna will perform a credit assessment at each payment just as it does for regular purchases.
“We want Klarna to be available wherever we can help simplify consumers’ daily finances, whether that’s shopping, services or paying bills. Through the partnership with Billo, we make it easier for users to manage their finances in a convenient and secure way while gaining access to all the benefits of Klarna Saldo,” says Björn Bryngelson, Nordic Head at Klarna.
“Establishing a partnership with Klarna, a leading global player focused on expansion, allows us to scale up and continue building the digital infrastructure of the future for mail, documents and payments. Billo is much more than a digital mailbox, and we are continuously developing new services that simplify everyday life for our users,” says Johan Eklöf, co‑founder and CEO of Billo.
