Nokia and Telefónica Team Up to Expand Private 5G Networks in Spain

Nokia and Telefónica have signed a three-year agreement to accelerate the private 5G network market in Spain. The partnership targets increased productivity, improved worker safety, and greater sustainability across mission-critical sectors such as ports, manufacturing, and logistics.

Under the deal, Nokia will provide 100 units of its industrial-grade solutions, including Digital Automation Cloud (DAC), Modular Private Wireless (MPW), MX Industrial Edge (MXIE), and industrial devices. These solutions will be integrated into Telefónica’s infrastructure to meet growing demand from Spain’s enterprise market.

Nokia’s unified industrial digitalization platform is built to simplify digital transformation across diverse industries. Combining secure, reliable wireless connectivity with on-premises computing, the platform enables real-time processing of operational technology data—an essential capability for accelerating digital initiatives and supporting mission-critical applications.

Adrián García Nevado, Business Director at Telefónica Spain, said: “This collaboration with Nokia aligns with our vision of empowering industry with cutting-edge technology in a new era driven by artificial intelligence and data. We have already worked on more than 90 real customer use cases to explore the potential of 5G.”

The partnership is expected to drive Industry 4.0 adoption in Spain by enabling businesses to become more data-driven and by providing a clear migration path for moving use cases to 5G, enhancing Telefónica’s enterprise offerings.

Nokia brings extensive experience in mission-critical networks, serving over 2,600 enterprise clients worldwide across sectors such as transportation, energy, manufacturing, and public services. The company also supports more than 730 private wireless customers globally.

Rolf Albrecht, Head of Enterprise Campus Edge Business, Europe at Nokia, commented: “This collaboration with Telefónica will help enterprises progress on their digitalization journeys. Our private wireless and on-prem edge solutions address the mission-critical requirements of asset-intensive industries, delivering benefits that go beyond connectivity—such as improved worker safety and reduced emissions.”

Together, Nokia and Telefónica aim to advance Spain’s digital transformation by combining Nokia’s technologies with Telefónica’s network reach. Spanish enterprises stand to gain from stronger connectivity, higher operational efficiency, and improved competitiveness in the global market.

As these solutions are deployed over the next three years, they are likely to spur innovation across industries and contribute to growth in Spain’s digital economy.
