Singtel and Qualcomm Pilot AI-Powered Wi‑Fi Gateway with Smart Features

Singtel and Qualcomm have completed a successful proof of concept for an AI-powered Wi‑Fi gateway. This industry-first trial evaluated multiple devices and real-world applications using Qualcomm’s Smart Traffic Classifier, part of the Networking AI Suite embedded in the Dragonwing Wi‑Fi 7 platform.

Results showed up to a 50% reduction in average latency for latency-sensitive applications such as online gaming, video streaming, and voice or video calls in congested environments, delivering a clear improvement in user experience.

Following this milestone, Singtel plans to commercialise the AI-driven capability across its markets, beginning with Singapore. The company will also adopt Qualcomm’s NPro 7 and N7 platforms to enable further AI enhancements designed to improve customer satisfaction.

Jorge Fernandes, Group CTO at Singtel, said: “In today’s hyper-connected world, households depend on uninterrupted high-speed connectivity for work, entertainment and smart home devices. Effective traffic management is therefore essential.

“Through our collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies, we are setting new benchmarks in home connectivity by using AI to deliver intelligent bandwidth allocation and energy optimisation that enhance our customers’ connectivity experience.”

The AI-enabled home gateway supports Singtel’s efforts to meet rising consumer demands driven by data-intensive activities, cloud services and an increasing number of connected devices in modern homes.

This collaboration builds on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Singtel and Qualcomm to develop technologies that improve everyday life across Asia and beyond. Qualcomm’s edge-AI expertise is a strategic asset for achieving that goal.

ST Liew, VP & President, QC Taiwan, SEA and ANZ at Qualcomm, commented: “We are excited to work with Singtel Singapore on this pioneering AI gateway project, an important step toward realising our shared vision for AI at the network edge.

“By leveraging Qualcomm Technologies’ AI capabilities, we aim to transform connectivity and elevate user experiences. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Singtel Group to bring impactful AI solutions to market.”

Singtel intends to introduce its AI-powered gateway across other markets in its footprint after launching the technology in Singapore. The rollout will support smarter, energy-efficient networks capable of prioritising bandwidth for services such as Wi‑Fi 7, low-latency gaming, and next-generation 10 Gbps broadband packages.

This initiative is part of Singtel’s broader strategy to lead in connectivity innovation. Last year, Singtel became the first fixed broadband provider to adopt the Broadband Forum’s TR‑369 standard for Wi‑Fi management, enabling seamless multi-vendor device management, faster deployment of advanced technologies, and improved device-to-network interoperability.

As demand for ultra-fast, reliable internet continues to grow, next-generation AI-enabled gateways will transform traditional Wi‑Fi systems into intelligent platforms that deliver meaningful benefits to end users.
