Knowit Approved as a Supplier for NATO Framework Agreement

Knowit has been approved as a supplier under the NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA) Basic Ordering Agreement (BOA), enabling participation in procurements from NATO and its member nations. The approval has been granted to Knowit’s Finnish subsidiary, Knowit Solutions Oy. Similar approvals already exist for Knowit companies in Sweden.

The approval allows participation in procurements related to digital solutions, data management and secure systems. BOA is a NATO procurement framework where acquisitions are carried out as separate, competitive calls for tender among approved suppliers.

With Finland’s NATO membership, Finnish companies now have access to procurements that were previously unavailable. This expands opportunities into a demanding operational environment that places high requirements on system reliability, cybersecurity and operational continuity.

The BOA approval has been awarded to Knowit Solutions Oy, part of the Knowit group, following a multi-year evaluation process that examined capacity, reliability and compliance with strict security standards. Corresponding approvals already exist for Knowit’s Swedish subsidiaries, specifically Knowit Defence Technology and Knowit Dataunit. Together, these approvals reflect Knowit’s growing role as a Nordic partner in the development of secure and resilient digital solutions in a NATO context.

”This approval is a significant endorsement of trust in Knowit’s capabilities. Digital resilience depends on the ability to connect data and systems across organizational boundaries and ensure they operate reliably even in disrupted situations. We have experience developing and maintaining solutions in environments where systems must perform under all conditions,” says Terhi Sirviö, Head of Public Sector, Knowit Finland.

”It is important to us that our work aligns with our vision and values. We focus on digital solutions that support society, public authorities and secure data management. We see our role as particularly important in systems that enable communication, situational awareness and decision-making, thereby contributing to societal stability and democratic structures,” says Per Wallentin, CEO of Knowit.

The approval process requires authorization from both NATO and the relevant Finnish national authorities.

For public sector clients and organizations that manage critical infrastructure, this approval means access to suppliers with demonstrated expertise in building secure, compliant and resilient digital platforms. For Knowit, it opens opportunities to bid on projects where strict security, dependable operations and robust data handling are essential requirements.

The BOA framework supports competitive and transparent procurement while ensuring that participating vendors meet rigorous standards. Suppliers approved under BOA may be invited to tender for a range of services, including secure communications, systems integration, data governance, cyber resilience services and mission-critical software development.

For the Nordic IT industry, the decision highlights the ability of regional companies to compete in security-sensitive international markets. It also signals growing demand for advanced operational and security capabilities—areas where Nordic firms often have deep expertise. Managed service providers and integrators in the region can expect increased demand for secure operations, identity and access management, compliance-driven services, and continuity solutions tailored for public sector and critical infrastructure customers.

At the same time, participating in NATO-related procurements brings complex requirements and regulatory obligations. Suppliers must maintain certifications, long-term operational capacity and technical reliability. The multi-layered approval process and ongoing compliance monitoring help ensure that solutions delivered under BOA meet NATO’s standards for security and resilience.

Knowit’s approval under the NCIA BOA therefore represents both an endorsement of its technical and organizational maturity and a commitment to deliver solutions that uphold high standards of cybersecurity, reliability and service continuity. It strengthens Knowit’s position as a Nordic partner capable of supporting digital transformation in mission-critical environments.
