BT Launches Halo Plans Combining 5G and Fixed Broadband

BT has combined its “Halo” and “No Limits” mobile plans to create a unified offering that leverages both 5G mobile and fixed-line home broadband technologies (FTTC, FTTP, G.fast). The move is designed to give subscribers the advantages of converged connectivity—seamless performance, improved reliability and simplified service options.

Existing 5G customers on BT Plus will be automatically migrated to the Halo package, ensuring they can immediately benefit from the merged plan without taking any action.

BT Plus has been positioned as a premium bundle that includes the operator’s Complete Wi‑Fi Guarantee, enhanced UK and Ireland-based customer support, and a “Keep Connected Promise.” Under that promise, customers receive a mini 4G Hub with unlimited data when their fixed broadband line experiences an outage, maintaining connectivity for essential tasks.

BT has confirmed the Complete Wi‑Fi Guarantee will soon become standard across more plan tiers, extending the same level of support and resilience to a broader group of customers.

In a separate initiative showcasing practical 5G use cases, BT partnered with Belfast Harbour and mixed-reality specialists Ubimax and VRtuoso to demonstrate how 5G combined with augmented reality (AR) can enhance operational workflows. The collaboration presented two pilot applications aligned with Belfast Harbour’s Smart Port ambitions.

The first demonstration involved a Belfast Harbour operations team member wearing an AR headset linked to a 5G connection. Using a cloud-hosted application server, the headset provided step-by-step maintenance instructions and remote expert support while the user inspected a crane, illustrating how AR over 5G can speed up repairs and reduce downtime.

The second demonstration showcased an immersive 5G experience where geographically dispersed participants streamed VR content from the cloud. The trial highlighted how high-bandwidth, low-latency 5G networks can deliver shared, high-fidelity virtual experiences to remote teams, improving collaboration and training.
