Nokia has reached an important milestone in the global 5G market, positioning itself as a key supplier for next-generation networks.
The Finnish telecommunications vendor now counts 100 commercial 5G contracts and a total of 160 commercial 5G engagements, reflecting rapid progress across multiple markets and customer segments.
Nokia reports that enterprise customers constitute 12 percent of its 5G contracts. Recent private wireless deployments include major projects with Deutsche Bahn, Toyota Production Engineering, and Sandvik, underlining the company’s traction in industrial and enterprise applications.
Tommi Uitto, President of Mobile Networks at Nokia, commented:
“We are thrilled to have passed this 5G milestone. We know we still have work to do and that the market remains highly competitive. But we are moving fast – and these wins make it clear that our progress is being validated by customers.
We deeply appreciate their ongoing support and are committed to delivering for them.”
The broader market remains competitive, and recent regulatory restrictions and bans on certain vendors’ equipment have reshaped vendor opportunities. For example, BT recently selected Nokia to replace Huawei equipment in EE’s 5G network, a move that highlights shifting supply relationships in regions imposing restrictions.
Despite these shifts, market data from Dell’Oro indicates that Huawei continued to lead global telecommunications equipment revenue in the first half of the year, maintaining a substantial overall position.
Industry analysts note that Nokia, Ericsson, and ZTE are competing closely for the next positions in global telecom equipment revenues, creating a tight race for market share outside the top leader.
An independent analysis from Analysys Mason last month concluded that Nokia is well positioned to gain further ground on competitors. The report credits Nokia’s recent growth and a comprehensive portfolio that the analysts consider leading across multiple categories, suggesting momentum for the company in the near term.
