Vodafone has become the UK’s largest provider of full-fibre broadband.
Full-fibre broadband delivers speeds up to 25 times faster than traditional copper connections and is around five times more reliable. Vodafone’s full-fibre service is now available to over eight million premises in the UK, surpassing availability from TalkTalk, Sky, BT and Virgin Media.
| Broadband provider (consumer sales) | Number of premises Full Fibre (FTTP or FTTH) is available at |
| Vodafone | 8,007,839 |
| TalkTalk | 7,918,492 |
| Sky | 7,361,859 |
| BT | 7,267,221 |
| Virgin Media | 1,104,862 |
Max Taylor, Consumer Director at Vodafone UK, commented:
“During the current cost of living crisis, we want consumers to know there is no need to pay too much for an equivalent broadband product and we urge them to take a look around to get the best price possible.
Most major broadband providers, including Vodafone, offer the same Openreach service so customers can switch their broadband and often save hundreds of pounds.”
Consumer group Which? recently named Vodafone the best performing large broadband provider for customer satisfaction, rating it highly on value for money, reliability and customer service compared with BT, Sky, TalkTalk and Virgin Media.
“As Vodafone now offers Full Fibre to 8m homes, more than anyone else, more families than ever before can get the most reliable broadband technology at an affordable price from a brand they know and trust,” Taylor added.
Vodafone is also one of the few UK providers to offer a hybrid broadband solution that automatically switches to a mobile connection during a fibre outage, helping maintain connectivity for customers when issues occur on the fixed network.
In November 2021 Vodafone announced a long-term partnership with CityFibre. As CityFibre’s anchor customer, Vodafone committed to significant volumes across CityFibre’s nationwide rollout as part of a multi-billion pound investment programme.
Vodafone says its agreements with CityFibre demonstrate support for greater wholesale infrastructure competition and for accelerating the availability of full-fibre services across the UK.
