Tyréns Invests in Technology Development and Innovation

Tyréns aims to advance technological development and foster innovation within the built environment sector. This ambition led to the AI solution that began taking shape in spring 2024 and is now successfully deployed across the organization. The solution, called Sven AI, has been honored with the “AI Application of the Year” award by AI Arena Awards.

Award for AI Application of the Year

The award was presented at Stora AI-dagen in Stockholm on March 20. The jury commented:

“Through Sven AI, Tyréns has transformed a large organization within a traditional industry and created widespread engagement around AI. They demonstrate that technology alone is not enough to meet sustainability goals—it’s people’s ability to use the technology correctly that makes the difference. Tyréns enables entirely new conditions for collaboration and innovation by giving all employees unlimited access to collective knowledge in an AI-driven knowledge system that surfaces experience from thousands of projects and ensures best practice in consulting work. Their efforts are groundbreaking and serve as an inspiration for the entire built environment sector.”

An AI solution tailored for the built environment

Sven AI is built on existing language models, supplemented by Tyréns’ own structured data and domain-specific open data for the built environment. This approach makes the tool far more effective than a general AI solution because it allows us to limit and focus the dataset for particular professional needs—such as for architects or engineers—explains Åsa Holmberg, CEO of Tyréns.

AI as a driver of innovation

Tyréns currently runs several innovation projects where AI plays a key role. One example is RiskAI, which supports risk reduction during blasting operations. Another is Attain—an AI-based solution for managing and optimizing building energy performance. A third example is QTMS, which uses AI and historical data to predict maintenance needs for railways.

– Since 2019 we have operated a successful innovation program for new products and services. Integrating Sven AI into our innovations will further improve outcomes, says Åsa Holmberg.

New version and skills development

The initiative is financed by Sven Tyréns Stiftelse, and additional resources are being allocated to development throughout 2025 to enhance functionality. Around 800 Tyréns employees in Sweden have already taken the opportunity to learn more about Sven AI, and further training sessions will be rolled out across the Tyréns group’s countries.

– The goal of the initiative is to increase productivity and the value of our deliveries while driving progress in the built environment sector. Time savings allow us to deepen collaboration with clients and focus more time on expert knowledge and solutions, concludes Åsa Holmberg.
