Three UK CEO Dave Dyson has announced he will step down as the company advances plans for closer alignment across its European businesses.
Dyson said his departure is for personal reasons. He will be succeeded as Three UK CEO by Robert Finnegan, the current CEO of Three Ireland. Dyson will remain on the company’s board.
“Three UK is well positioned to grow following investments in 5G spectrum and the modernization of IT systems and processes,” Dyson said. “Robert joins at an exciting time in our history, and the combined strengths of our UK and Ireland businesses provide a strong platform to meet customer demand.”
Finnegan will continue to serve as CEO of Three Ireland. With Three Ireland’s integration with O2 Ireland largely complete, the business is taking the opportunity to move toward closer coordination of its European operations.
“Now that the integration of the Three and O2 businesses in Ireland is mostly finished, we have a solid foundation for the next phase of development,” Finnegan said. “Working more closely and progressively aligning operations and platforms with Three UK is a clear opportunity, and I’m excited to take on the challenge of leading both operations.”
Dyson has led Three UK since 2005 and played a major role in expanding the operator’s market share from around one percent to approximately 36 percent. Under his leadership, Three Ireland became the country’s largest data network and now carries more data traffic than all other mobile network operators combined.
Canning Fok, managing director of Three owner CK Hutchison, commented: “We are always seeking competitive advantages to support our growth ambitions. 5G is an exciting opportunity for both businesses, and now is an opportune time to pool resources across the UK and Ireland to pursue it.”
