China Unicom has partnered with game developer NetDragon WebSoft to showcase the capabilities of a 5G-enabled classroom.
The two organizations hosted a conference titled “5G + Smart Education Industry” in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei Province, to present their latest educational innovations.
At the event, China Unicom delivered an open physics lecture that connected students across different regions using holograms and 5G connectivity, offering an immersive, real-time learning experience.
Mr. Liang Baojun, Deputy General Manager of China Unicom, said:
“5G will become a crucial foundation for our country’s information and communication infrastructure, and it will be key to the development of the industrial internet and artificial intelligence. We will leverage resources from our existing networks, incubate 5G applications, and draw on support from our industry partners to fully support the advancement of education in China.”
NetDragon demonstrated a broad portfolio of educational solutions, including Holographic Interactive Learning, VR Immersion Classroom, VR Fire Safety, VR Anti-Drug programs, a One-Stop Learning platform, and 101 Education PPT, among other products designed to enhance teaching and learning.
Dr. Xiong Li, CEO of NetDragon, remarked:
“As a technical partner for this open class, NetDragon is committed to bringing innovative ideas and technologies to the education sector. The success of this session not only highlighted the mature application of China Unicom’s 5G technology but also showcased NetDragon’s holographic and VR capabilities along with our extensive educational resources.”
The conference was organized in collaboration with the National Engineering Research Center for E-Learning and the National Engineering Laboratory for Educational Big Data at Central China Normal University, China Information Communication Technologies Group Corporation, and Huawei Technologies.
China Unicom has announced several recent partnerships. For example, the operator teamed up with Ericsson to launch a smart harbor at the Port of Qingdao that achieved several industry-first milestones. That project illustrates how 5G, IoT, and AI can be combined to transform large-scale industrial and logistics operations.
