CityFibre, the UK’s largest independent full-fibre network provider, has started deploying high-speed connectivity across the historic city of Bath.
A planned £25 million investment will bring modern full-fibre broadband to homes and businesses throughout the ancient Roman city. This infrastructure upgrade is designed to deliver reliable, future-proof internet that supports both residential users and the growing local tech and business community.
Neil Madle, City Manager for Bath at CityFibre, said:
“Bath is world-renowned for its Roman Baths and literary heritage, but it is also becoming an important tech hub. I’m proud to see work beginning here, as it means residents and businesses will soon benefit from the best possible digital infrastructure.
Short-term disruption during construction is inevitable, but the long-term gains will be substantial. Once complete, the network will meet the community’s connectivity needs for decades and support Bath’s digital ambitions.”
CityFibre will make its full-fibre services available through a range of internet service providers. The rollout is scheduled to be completed by 2023, with the first services becoming available much sooner as areas are connected.
Councillor Richard Samuel, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Resources and Economic Development at Bath & North East Somerset Council, added:
“It is great to see CityFibre begin delivering this £25 million infrastructure programme in Bath. A citywide full-fibre network will deliver wide-ranging benefits for residents, businesses, and public services.
This is a once-in-a-generation upgrade that will future-proof our communications at a time when reliable connectivity is essential. Faster broadband supports economic recovery by helping local firms attract talent and enabling more residents to work flexibly or return to employment.”
CityFibre’s full-fibre connections offer speeds up to 1,000 Mbps for both uploads and downloads and provide very high capacity to support increasing demand. CityFibre is partnering with major providers—Vodafone is already signed on for UK deployments, and other ISPs, including TalkTalk, are expected to offer services over the network soon.
