BAE Systems has been awarded an £89 million contract to design and build a deployable tactical Wide Area Network (WAN) called TRINITY.
This contract will provide secure, modern battlefield internet connectivity for the UK Armed Forces, delivering resilient communications for land operations.
Classified as a Design and Systems Integration Delivery (DSID) contract, the five-year programme supports economic growth priorities and will create 60 new jobs in Dorset, UK.
BAE Systems will work with partners including L3Harris, KBR, and PA Consulting to develop and deliver advanced network capabilities while building skills across the UK supply chain.
TRINITY is designed as a resilient mesh of interconnected nodes that exchange and relocate data securely. If individual nodes are degraded or lost in combat, remaining nodes will dynamically reroute traffic to preserve network performance and maintain continuous information flow.
Planned to replace the current Falcon network, which is due to retire in 2026, TRINITY will modernise the UK Armed Forces’ land communications and improve interoperability with allied forces at home and on coalition deployments.
Armed Forces Minister James Heappey said:
“In this continually evolving, multi-domain environment it is vital that our personnel have access to world-leading communications capabilities while on operations.
We remain committed to working closely with the best of British industry as they support our endeavour to better connect with our allies and their assets in theatre.”
A significant portion of the £89 million will fund research and development for TRINITY, with delivery expected to begin in December 2025.
David Armstrong, Group Managing Director of BAE Systems’ Digital Intelligence business, said:
“In an increasingly complex and fast-paced threat landscape, TRINITY will give the UK Armed Forces a clearer and more efficient view of the battlespace, enabling swift, informed decisions when and where they matter most.
By providing this advantage to front-line decision-makers, TRINITY reinforces our commitment to equipping the UK Armed Forces with the right tools to stay ahead in the evolving battlespace.”
TRINITY forms a key element of the Land Environment Tactical Communications and Information Systems (LE TacCIS) programme.
LE TacCIS seeks to introduce the next generation of tactical military communications for land forces, ensuring the UK remains at the leading edge of operational technology and readiness.
