The latest report from Ookla shows AT&T leading Verizon in average 4G speeds, while T-Mobile dominates in 5G performance.
Ookla’s 4G speed score places AT&T at the top with a score of 41.23. T-Mobile follows in second with 33.69. Sprint and Verizon trail closely behind, scoring 31.53 and 30.77 respectively.
All major carriers now report strong 4G availability. Sprint and Verizon share the highest availability at 99%, with AT&T and T-Mobile close behind at 97.8% and 97.5% respectively.
The 5G results are more striking. Verizon leads by a wide margin with a 5G speed score of 870.50. AT&T ranks second with a score of 78.68, while Sprint and T-Mobile follow with scores of 64.82 and 64.26.
However, those 5G numbers can be misleading because Verizon’s 5G rollout remains much smaller than its competitors’. Verizon has reported just 39 deployments so far, compared with T-Mobile’s 5,008 deployments and AT&T’s 355 deployments.
