CreditCall Brings Mobile Chip-and-PIN Payments to the Forefront

CreditCall, a payment gateway provider, has launched its Chip and PIN mobile payment app CardEase Mobile for users in the UK and made it available to partners and developers around the world.

Designed for smartphones and tablets, CardEase Mobile is positioned as one of the first mobile payment applications capable of processing both EMV Chip and PIN transactions and magnetic stripe payments. The solution supports secure card acceptance where Chip and PIN is required, addressing a key requirement for merchants in markets such as the UK.

The app is EMV certified—approved under the global standards set by Europay, MasterCard and Visa—and is designed to integrate with a merchant account and a PIN pad supplied by partner acquirers such as Elavon and Sage Pay. Card data is transmitted via encrypted Bluetooth, ensuring point-to-point protection between the customer’s card interaction and the merchant’s device.

Sian Bosley, Commercial Director at CreditCall, emphasised the practical importance of full Chip and PIN support: “A number of mobile payment solutions that have recently entered the market cannot accept Chip and PIN, which is essential in the UK. We are very proud to announce that CardEase Mobile is now available globally.”

CreditCall has a track record of working with payment acquirers to bring mobile Chip and PIN to merchants. Earlier in the year, CreditCall partnered with Elavon to produce Elavon MobileMerchant, released in May, which allowed businesses using Android and BlackBerry devices to accept Chip and PIN while on the move. That product likewise launched initially for UK merchants.

The release of CardEase Mobile is a notable step in the evolving landscape of mobile payment applications. As consumer demand for flexible, secure payment options grows, solutions that combine EMV compliance with mobile convenience help merchants meet both regulatory expectations and customer preferences.

In the broader industry context, mobile payments have attracted collaboration efforts across multiple sectors, including telecoms and technology companies. For example, earlier reports suggested that Deutsche Telekom AG had held talks with Google about potential cooperation related to Google Wallet, a platform that supports near field communication (NFC) transactions. While those discussions were reported in industry interviews, progress and public announcements have been limited.

CardEase Mobile’s arrival highlights several ongoing industry trends: the drive toward EMV-compliant mobile acceptance, the importance of secure wireless data transfer between card readers and mobile devices, and the value of partnerships between payment technology providers and acquiring banks or gateways. For merchants, adopting a certified solution can simplify compliance, reduce fraud risk, and expand the range of accepted payment types.

CreditCall’s presence in industry events and trade shows continues to support awareness and adoption of mobile EMV solutions. The company exhibited at Apps World in London on 2–3 October, participating in conversations around mobile payments and NFC, and demonstrating how mobile Chip and PIN can be implemented for on-the-go businesses.

As mobile payment ecosystems mature, businesses and developers evaluating payment solutions should consider certification status, device compatibility, encryption and key management, and the availability of local acquiring partners. CardEase Mobile demonstrates that EMV-certified mobile acceptance is feasible today and can be deployed in a way that aligns with market expectations, particularly in regions where Chip and PIN remains the standard for card-present transactions.
