Reliance Jio Claims World’s Largest RCS Network, Outpacing WhatsApp and Facebook

Rich Communication Services (RCS) is a next-generation messaging standard designed to replace traditional SMS, offering the richer media experiences users expect from over-the-top (OTT) apps like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and Skype.

Reliance Jio integrated RCS into its Jio4GVoice service and achieved rapid adoption, surpassing 100 million subscribers within 170 days of launch. This pace set a world record for reaching that milestone, outpacing the growth speed of many popular OTT messaging apps.

We are excited by the ambition and pace of the Jio evolution

Jio4GVoice is available as a downloadable app on the Google Play Store and does not require an LTE-capable device to function. After inserting a Jio SIM, users simply download the app to enjoy high-quality voice calls along with RCS-enhanced messaging features such as group chat, file transfer, location sharing, and stickers.

The service is built on the WIT Communication Suite, a platform that enables mobile operators to design, launch, and evolve IP-based communication services. The platform supports integrated voice, video, and messaging capabilities accessible through downloadable apps for Android and iPhone, as well as across PC, web, and TV endpoints.

“WIT is very proud to have been working with Reliance Jio for the last two years, and we are thrilled with the huge success of the Jio services. The rate of growth of subscribers of the Jio4GVoice service that we have seen in the first five months is remarkable and a testament to the innovative service that Jio is providing to the Indian market,” said Luis Silva, CEO of WIT Software. “We are excited by the ambition and pace of the Jio evolution, and we look forward to future service extensions and new service launches to enrich the Jio proposition even further.”
