Apple Courts UK Telecom Partner for TV Plans and Beach Walk Perks

Apple is reportedly seeking a UK-based telecommunications partner to expand the reach of its TV platform in an important market for the company.

According to a report in The Telegraph, BT is the frontrunner in talks with Apple.

BT, which also owns the UK’s largest mobile operator, EE, is expected to distribute Apple TV devices to EE broadband customers. These units would be pre-loaded with apps such as BT Sport and other services tailored for the UK market.

A partnership like this would mirror arrangements Apple has already made in other countries. In Switzerland, for example, Apple has teamed up with Salt, the national mobile, fiber broadband, and pay-TV operator, to distribute devices and services.

In the United States, Apple has long worked with national carriers as well. Verizon has offered a free Apple TV 4K to early 5G Home customers, and AT&T previously included Apple TV units with DirecTV Now promotional packages.

Those carrier relationships form part of Apple’s broader strategy to bolster its TV offering, which includes a reported $1 billion investment in original programming. The company plans to roll out initial original content in the coming year.

Original content has been an effective growth engine for streaming platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. Both services have built large subscriber bases—exceeding 100 million users each—through exclusive series and films that attract and retain viewers.

As over-the-top (OTT) streaming services gain subscribers, many consumers are “cord-cutting”—abandoning traditional cable subscriptions in favor of internet-delivered content. That shift is prompting telecom operators to explore new revenue streams and partnerships to remain competitive.

A distribution deal with Apple would likely offer mutual benefits. Apple would gain broader device distribution and reach into BT’s customer base, while BT and EE could differentiate their broadband and TV bundles by offering discounted hardware and curated access to Apple’s forthcoming content.

We’ll continue to monitor developments and report on how discussions between Apple and potential UK partners progress.
