Virgin Media O2 Unveils First Joint Product Since £31B Merger

Virgin Media O2 has launched Volt, the company’s first joint offering since the telecoms giants completed their £31 billion merger earlier this year.

Volt bundles Virgin Media’s fast home broadband with O2’s mobile connectivity into a single, streamlined package designed to deliver better value and a simpler experience for customers.

Key benefits of subscribing to a Volt bundle that combines a broadband plan with an O2 pay monthly mobile plan include:

  • A free broadband speed upgrade to the next available tier (for example, 100Mbps upgraded to 200Mbps)
  • Double mobile data on eligible O2 pay monthly plans (for example, a 10GB plan increased to 20GB)
  • Up to £150 off a connected device such as a tablet or smartwatch when taking out a new O2 Pay Monthly Custom plan
  • Optional WiFi Pods to improve coverage throughout the home
  • O2 Travel roaming included across 75 countries, including the USA, Australia and Spain

Volt will be available to both new and existing customers. New customers can select Volt during sign-up, while existing Virgin Media or O2 customers can enroll through the My O2 app or account portal.

Jeff Dodds, Chief Operating Officer at Virgin Media O2, commented:

“With Volt, we’re combining the speed and reliability of Virgin Media’s broadband and O2’s mobile networks alongside a variety of incredible perks to give our customers more.

The launch of converged services in less than 150 days as a business is a huge milestone moment and demonstrates the momentum we have behind our commitment to supercharge connectivity across the UK. This is just the start.”

Converged packages are increasingly attractive to consumers seeking simplicity and better value. In the UK, only two companies own both a broadband and a mobile network: Virgin Media O2 and BT.

Virgin Media also operates its own TV service, which allows the company to offer flexible “triple-play” bundles that combine broadband, mobile and TV under one provider.

Volt bundle pricing begins at £40 per month for a package that includes 200Mbps broadband (upgraded from 100Mbps), Talk More Weekends and a 10GB O2 SIM (upgraded from 5GB). The top-tier Ultimate Volt bundle features Gig1 broadband, an unlimited-data O2 SIM and a TV package with two TV 360 boxes for £99 per month.

Competitors do offer similar bundles, but often through partnerships rather than unified ownership. For example, Sky provides its own TV service but operates as a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) on O2 and uses the BT-owned Openreach network for broadband.
