Nokia and Dell Technologies have expanded their strategic partnership to accelerate open network architectures within the telecom ecosystem and to promote private 5G deployments for enterprises.
Under the agreement, each company will focus on its core strengths: Dell supplying infrastructure solutions and Nokia delivering private wireless connectivity offerings.
Nokia will designate Dell as its preferred infrastructure partner for existing Nokia AirFrame customers. Nokia AirFrame is the company’s data center solution engineered to run virtualized and cloud-native workloads. Conversely, Dell will name Nokia Digital Automation Cloud (NDAC) as its preferred private wireless platform for enterprise clients, with plans to integrate NDAC into Dell’s NativeEdge edge operations software.
Both companies will continue collaborating on platform and application testing, as well as lifecycle management to ensure smooth deployment and ongoing operations.
Nishant Batra, Nokia’s chief strategy and technology officer, said the extended partnership will increase flexibility for both firms and better meet evolving customer requirements. “Our continued collaboration with Dell will help address the future needs of our customers brought on by increasing demands on networks and provide solutions to help communications service providers scale modern networks to the cloud,” Batra said.
A notable milestone in the partnership was announced at MWC 2023. Nokia’s anyRAN initiative, which enables enterprises and mobile operators to select radio access network (RAN) solutions independent of business model, runs on Dell’s XR8000 servers.
Dennis Hoffman, senior vice president and general manager of Dell Technologies’ telecom systems business, said Dell’s experience in digital transformation positions the company to support Nokia customers as they transition network functions to the cloud on Dell’s widely adopted compute platforms.
