Verizon has formed a partnership with Google to offer YouTube TV to its global customer base.
As a result of the agreement, Verizon subscribers can now sign up for YouTube TV through Verizon and access the channels and on-demand content they enjoy. The arrangement enables Verizon wireless customers to stream YouTube TV on mobile devices, while also supporting viewing across other platforms. Verizon will promote YouTube TV with exclusive offers and value-added promotions tailored for its customers.
“As we pave the path forward on 5G, we’ll continue to bring our customers options and access to premium content by teaming up with the best providers in the industry and leveraging our network-as-a-service strategy,” said Erin McPherson, head of content strategy and acquisition at Verizon. “We were first in the world to bring commercial 5G to our customers, and now we’re taking another step on the content front by offering access to YouTube TV across the platforms our customers choose.”
Heather Rivera, global head of product partnerships at YouTube, commented: “With this partnership, we’re making it simple and seamless for Verizon customers to sign up and enjoy YouTube TV on-the-go on mobile phones and tablets, or at home on larger screens.”
Separately, Nokia is developing a patent-pending 5G virtual testing environment designed to make 5G rollouts faster and more cost-efficient. The company is collaborating with network operators to simulate massive MIMO antenna beamforming by combining physical tests with an advanced virtual environment. At Nokia’s 5G test facility in Oulu, Finland, engineers integrate an over-the-air (OTA) physical test setup with virtual reality tools to evaluate and verify optimal antenna site placements for operators.
