DDoS attacks, which overwhelm networks with massive volumes of data, have risen sharply and present significant risks to companies worldwide. To address this growing threat and further strengthen customer defenses against cyberattacks, GlobalConnect will introduce a basic DDoS protection service for all business customers starting 1 January 2025. The service is designed to safeguard networks by blocking known threats and analyzing traffic to detect and stop attacks.
According to McKinsey research, global DDoS attacks doubled in 2024 compared with 2023, and companies now experience an average of 11 attacks per year. The increase is especially pronounced in the EMEA region, which accounts for 57 percent of incidents. Sectors most affected include telecommunications, software services, banking and insurance, and public services. These attacks can cause substantial economic damage, temporarily disrupt operations, and harm brand reputation.
“With this initiative, we offer all our business customers a basic level of protection against the most common attack types. This is an important step to meet the rising threat level and to improve our customers’ ability to defend themselves from cyberattacks,” says Anna Granö, EVP B2B at GlobalConnect.
GlobalConnect’s new DDoS service secures operational resilience
Despite growing awareness of DDoS threats, surveys show that only 70 percent of companies worldwide have implemented some form of protection against overload attacks. GlobalConnect’s new DDoS protection addresses this critical market gap, providing businesses with a reliable solution to protect their operations. With a focus on maintaining operational continuity and safeguarding company resources, the initiative will help strengthen digital infrastructure and improve resilience against cyber threats.
Four protection levels tailored to different business needs
GlobalConnect serves more than 30,000 B2B customers and operates a 235,000-kilometer fiber network across Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Germany and Finland. GlobalConnect already offers several tiers of DDoS protection to match different security requirements, and starting 1 January 2025 all customers will automatically receive the basic protection level, Base.
“By offering multiple protection tiers, we ensure that every customer—regardless of size or industry—receives the security they need to protect their resources and maintain operational continuity,” Anna adds.
The protection levels available from 1 January 2025 are:
- Base – Automatic protection that filters out malicious traffic and maintains service availability during common overload attacks.
- Standard – Automatic protection against overload attacks, including incident reporting and alerting.
- Business – Advanced protection with dedicated hardware that filters and cleans traffic, offering extra defense against more complex attacks.
- Advanced – Customized security for sophisticated threats, including the ability to create custom protection profiles and defenses against application-layer attacks.
“Strengthening corporate cybersecurity has long been a top priority for us, and by introducing this basic DDoS protection level we take another important step to counter the escalating threats in the digital landscape,” concludes Anna Granö.
