6-in-1 FTDI USB Programming Cable for Ham Radios and Walkie-Talkies
Product description
Complete adapter set: The kit ships with a single USB–to–radio cable and six removable radio-side adapters so one cable can service multiple handheld models. The package is intended for Baofeng, Wouxun, Kenwood, Motorola, Yaesu and similar analogue radios, and explicitly includes adapters to match common connector types found on those brands.
Driver and OS support: The cable uses an FTDI-style USB interface chip for reliable serial emulation. It is compatible with macOS, Windows (Vista, XP, 7, 8, 8.1, 10) and mainstream Linux distributions such as Ubuntu; install the supplied driver or use the OS native FTDI driver for plug-and-play operation on many systems.
Construction and size: The lead is built with a molded USB-A plug and a flex-jacketed cable with molded plastic adapter heads for durability during repeated use. The modular plugs snap onto the radio end so you can swap connectors without changing the whole assembly. The overall length is suitable for desktop programming and typical field use.
Warranty and returns: Purchases are backed by a five-year U.S.-based warranty and a 60-day return period for added peace of mind. Support and replacement handling are managed domestically so you won’t need to ship the cable overseas if a covered issue arises.
Pros
- Six interchangeable adapters cover many radio brands
- FTDI-compatible USB interface for broad driver support
- U.S.-based warranty and 60-day return window
Cons
- Some radio plugs may not seat perfectly without minor modification
- Not every single legacy radio connector is supported
- Build quality is utilitarian rather than premium
VerdictA flexible, budget-friendly programming cable kit for hobbyists and comms techs. The FTDI-based USB dongle offers broad driver support and an LED activity indicator while the six modular adapters cover most popular handheld brands. It’s a handy all-in-one solution to keep in a field pack or bench drawer; just be aware some radio connectors may need a little seating adjustment.

UV-5R seating workaround
The UV-5R connector can sit shallow. I temporarily held the plug in place while downloading with CHIRP; trimming some plastic later will fix the fit permanently.

Professional-grade programming lead
Includes the FTDI-style chip and a data-transfer LED; the removable adapters let you program most popular handhelds. Solid value and tough enough for regular bench use.

Stopped working after two uses
Worked fine twice, then gave errors and now won’t connect. Return period elapsed, so I’m stuck with a nonfunctional cable.

A must for any comms kit
I own several of these cables. They work reliably across Baofeng, Wouxun, Kenwood, Motorola and Yaesu. Easy to use and essential for field kits.

Worked flawlessly with real driver
Only needed three adapters and those performed perfectly. Glad there’s an actual FTDI-style driver so I didn’t have to fight clone-driver issues.

Plug-and-play on first try
Windows assigned a COM port right away; I picked the correct adapter and it programmed the radio on first attempt. Labeled the adapter for future use—saved me money over OEM.

Solved Win10 connection issues
Windows 10 sometimes won’t see OEM leads; these USB adapters were recognized. Sent a set to my brother who uses different handheld brands.

Great for multi-OS setups
I use three different brands of handhelds across Windows 11, Windows 10 and Linux. With CHIRP and the instructions, I’ve had no issues.
