Revenue from 5G smartphone sales is projected to grow substantially over the next four years, with an anticipated increase of around 210 percent.
A report by Juniper Research indicates that 5G smartphones will represent more than half of smartphone sales revenue by 2025.
Estimated 5G smartphone sales revenue for 2021 is about $108 billion, rising to approximately $337 billion by 2025.
Newly introduced “right-to-repair” laws—intended to reduce electronic waste and make it more affordable for consumers to keep and repair their existing devices—are expected to constrain revenue growth over the longer term.
Research author Adam Wears noted:
“The effect of these laws will not be felt immediately, as consumers adopt 5G smartphones to take advantage of the higher speeds and lower latency offered by 5G networks.
Hardware vendors should use this period to introduce new device capabilities that encourage consumers to upgrade regularly and reduce churn to competitors.”
The report also forecasts that by 2025 global Android smartphone prices will be roughly 65 percent lower than their iOS equivalents. This price gap is likely to drive strong Android 5G smartphone sales in regions such as Latin America.
Conversely, iOS devices are expected to remain popular in developed markets, with North America and Europe projected to account for about 40 percent of global 5G smartphone revenue by 2025.
